Upsampling Explained, what's the difference between Nvidia's DLSS, Xbox DirectML & AMD's FidelityFX Super Sampling? Well, in this video you'll find out. Nvidia's DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) debuted with their Turing architecture and aims to run games at a lower resolution, such as 1440P and then upsample their visuals to a higher resolution output, say 4k. This is achieved at a much lower performance penality than the gaming natively rendering at 4k. With the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, Microsoft is pushing DirectML, which is machine learning framework capable of doing many things, including upsampling games. This code can be run of course on a windows based PC too, but will likely be more important here on consoles. Early results look promising, such as the demo we saw from Microsoft in 2018 showing Forza run at 1080P and then upsampling to 4k. DirectML though can also be used for things such as AI too. AMD is also pushing its FidelityFX Super Sampling tech, which is their 'version' of DLSS and seems to be capable of running on both the PS5 and Xbox, as well as PCs. From my own information it appears that it will run on both RDNA 1 and RDNA 2, though how FFSS runs on both is still a mystery right now.
