Patrick Cooke (Gunggalida man) and Monica Fahey (residing on Wangal/Gadigal land) are postgraduate students at Macquarie University and have spent the past few years working on a multidisciplinary project that seeks to retrace the dispersal of culturally significant rainforest food trees by First Nations groups in eastern Australia. Patrick and Monica will discuss the questions these findings raise about the influence of First Nations peoples on native so-called “wild” plant species, and how to test hypothetical scenarios that may explain the genetic data.
This presentation, delivered by Zoom, was part of the public program for the "Bonyi: Living Culture" exhibition held at Munnimbah-dja, on Jinibara Country at Maleny, Qld.
