In August 1990, ITN's Alastair Burnet interviewed Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother to celebrate her 90th birthday. Walking around the garden of the Royal Lodge, the Queen Mother – known affectionately to the public as the Queen Mum – discussed the history of the garden and, in doing so, reflected on the decades of her extraordinary life spent at the Royal Lodge. While reminiscing, the Queen Mother recalled taming the gardens of the Royal Lodge with her husband, King George VI, using the garden to grow food during wartime, and how her great-grandchildren Prince William and Prince Harry enjoyed playing on its lawn.
