Good morning, friends and families! We hope you are doing well on this sunny Wednesday morning! Myra and puppies are all doing really well. Myra's puppies will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. They''ll be getting their first deworming after their weight checks. We will be continuing their potty training exercises. Until their eyes and ears are open, we are mostly exposing them to the scent and tactile sensation of the pellets on their toes in association with pottying. We want to potty them in the pellets at least every hour, on the hour. Our goal is for half of their potty breaks to be with the pine pellets. As long as we expose them to the pellets prior to their eyes opening, pups transition very smoothly around 3-4 weeks old from Mom cleaning up their waste to independently walking to the tray and using it on their own. Now that they are almost 2 weeks old, they are beginning to blossom developmentally. Each of these puppies has a lot of potential to become great Emotional Support Animals. We see this by observing their behavior and reactions when we provide comfort and attention, especially if Mom is nearby and they chooses comfort from us! They love to be snuggled. At the start of each stream we try to highlight any 'big' moments they've had since the previous update. Myra's litter will remain in our bedroom for constant supervision and so that she can come and go to her pups as she pleases. Everything she needs is readily available to her, and we find that giving her breaks (such as up in our bed for belly rubs) helps delay the burnout she may begin to experience in a couple weeks. This breed of dog has a temperament ripe for therapeutic bonding, and their ability to tune into their handler's emotional needs can't compare to any other breed. We nurture those characteristics to optimize them further, starting before their eyes open. We potty train our puppies using pine pellets designed for rehydration, beginning between 7-10 days old. Our puppies typically understand where to go potty within about a week of practice, and they soon learn to use the tray all on their own.
