This video shows you how to make a glow stick. However, as some of the ingredient(e.g. CPPO) is not easy to get, i think you can treat this as a science demonstration rather than a home-made project. Things you need: (1)20ml DEP (Diethyl phthalate) (2)2g CPPO (Bis-(2,4,5-trichloro-6-(pentyloxycarbonyl)phenyl)oxalate) (sorry for mistake in the video) (3)0.1g Sodium Acetate (4)0.05g Rubrene (5)10ml 30% Hydrogen Peroxide Notes: (1)30% hydrogen peroxide is corrosive, please pay special attention when you deal with it (2)As CPPO do not dissolve in water, hot DEP works as a organic solvent (3)As the reaction works better in alkaline, sodium acetate is weak base which works as a catalyst (4)The solution turn will brighter if more sodium acetate is added, however, it will dim more quickly Special thanks to NurdRage, before reading his video, I used TBA(tert-Butyl alcohol) & DBP (Dibutyl phthalate) instead of DEP (Diethyl phthalate).
