Had a customer ship this beautiful knife from Yu Kurosaki-san to us for repair, It's part of his Shizuku line and is made from R2 steel.
No chip is a knife is desirable but this is certainly not the worst we have seen and was a relatively easy repair. Instead of talking throughout the video I tried to include the majority of the process and hope this helps some of you with your own chip repairs. As you can see during the video, I'm simply removing steel from the entirety of the blade as evenly as possible to the deepest part of the chip at which point it disappears. As we mentioned this is not a very sizeable chip and we didn't feel that any thinning was necessary.
We used a Naniwa Traditional #220 grit stone to remove the chip then moved through a pretty standard sharpening progression including a King #400, King #1000, Naniwa #6000, Naniwa #10000 and finally honed it on a leather strop.
We hope you enjoyed the video. Please leave us a comment if you have any questions and we'll be sure to answer you.
