With the America’s Cup teams converging on Barcelona this summer, it’s getting busy out there. The teams love seeing other people out there enjoying the sea and like them when you’re out sailing safety should be one of your main priorities. The last time the America’s Cup was in Spain, the yachts were doing 10 knots. Now they do 50 knots, 100 kph and their maneuvers are fast and can be very hard to predict. From their perspective, spectators and other boats are almost stationary objects. If you see them coming, slow down or better yet, stop. Don’t try and turn or speed up to try and avoid them. They will always avoid you. If you think you will be taking your boat out to see the first America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta in Vilanova in September, please register at www.americascup.com for up to date on water and event information. In the meantime all the teams look forward to seeing you out there for an epic summer of sailing in beautiful Barcelona.
